Meet the Team
Laura
A lifelong cat lover and the founder of Kitty Yarns. My journey with cats began the day a heavily pregnant stray wandered into my garden and won me over with a single meow. And from that moment on, cats became a central part of my life.
Before running Kitty Yarns, I volunteered at a rehoming centre, working with a variety of animals, but cats have always had my heart. Living with multiple cats has given me first-hand experience managing territorial behaviour and navigating the dynamics that can arise in multi-cat households. It’s taught me how important patience, routine, and careful observation are when helping cats feel secure.
Cats have also been a real lifeline for me during difficult times, which has deeply shaped how I care for every cat I meet. I love getting to know each cat as an individual — their quirks, habits, and unique personalities — and I’m very attentive to feline behaviour and body language so I can adapt my approach to what each cat needs.
I am certified in Cat Care L2 (VTQ), and trained in Pet First Aid Level 2, bringing thoughtful care that’s always guided by experience, empathy, and respect for each cat.

By day, I’m a postdoctoral research scientist, spending my time using electron microscopes to study cells. Outside of work, I’m a collector of creative hobbies — and most importantly, a devoted cat slave to my handsome boy Rocco.
Cats have always been a huge part of my life. Before Rocco, I shared many special years with my elderly cat Molly, who I adopted from Cats Protection. Caring for Molly deeply shaped the way I look after cats, especially those who are older, quieter, or have additional needs. I have a real soft spot for senior and vulnerable cats, and those who need a little extra patience, reassurance, or understanding. I also have experience administering pills and capsules.
For over a year, I’ve been fostering cats with Animal Support Angels, helping them feel safe, settled and cared for.
When caring for cats, I always take a gentle, patient, and adaptable approach. I never force interaction and always allow cats to come to me in their own time. Your cat’s comfort, wellbeing, and happiness always come first — and I treat every cat in my care as if they were my own.
